In the fifty-year period between 1880 and 1930, more Spaniards emigrated to the Americas than in the previous four centuries (1492 – 1880). Most of these emigrants headed to parts of the Spanish-speaking Americas, but tens of thousands of them would wind up in the United States, where, by the time of the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), they were established in tight-knit enclaves all over the United States. This site aims to be a multi-media resource center for the study of this diaspora, and this underexplored aspect of relations between Spain, the US, and Latin America.

Entre los años 1880 y 1930, emigraron a las Américas más españoles que en los cuatro siglos anteriores (1492 -1880). La gran mayoría de estos emigrantes se dirigieron a distintos puntos de la América de habla española. No obstante, decenas de miles de españoles acabarían en los Estados Unidos. Cuando estalló la Guerra Civil Española (1936-1939), se encontraban establecidos en comunidades compactas a lo largo y ancho de EEUU. Este sitio pretende ser un centro de recursos multi-media para facilitar el estudio de esta diáspora, y de este capítulo poco explorado de las relaciones entre España, Estados Unidos, e Hispanoamérica.
